Huai Rat is a district of Buriram Province, northeastern Thailand.
Neighboring districts are (from the east clockwise)
Krasang, Mueang Buriram, Ban Dan and Satuek of Buriram Province.
The minor district Huai Rat was created on April 1 1990, when the five tambon Huai Rat, Sam Waeng, Ta Sao, Ban Tako and Sanuan were split off from Mueang Buriram district. It was upgraded to a full district on September 8 1995.
The district is subdivided into 8 subdistricts, which are further subdivided into 85 villages. Huai Rat is a township which covers parts of tambon Huai Rat and the whole tambon Huai Racha. There are further 7 Tambon administrative organizations (TAO).

The village of Barn Takrong is located about 2km north of the Huai Rat hospital and is the location of not only my wife’s family as well as our family home which is in the village and our farm on the outskirts of the village.
